Here is the U.S. we pretty much have the option of not using personal checks. We can pay most of our bills online, use an Debit/Credit card almost everywhere. Many companies offer the option of depositing our pay checks into our checking accounts saving us trips to the bank. I personally have not received a paper paycheck for the last 10 years. For most Americans using check is a habit. I'm sure if our banks took away the option to write checks we could adapt to the change. Some of us would very reluctanly accept the change but over time get used to it.
