For Erik and others who may have roots in Torpa.
This is one of my Torpa lines:
Johannes Olson Rognstad (b. abt 1780/82, d. 1863) m. 1810 Ingeborg Olsdtr
Valhovd, dtr of Ole Hanson & Kari Nilsdtr Froysland, b. 1785. Kari Nilsdtr is
one of the huge Froysland family line. Ole Hanson is from another large family
the Lille Aurlund family. The children were:
1. Olava Johannesdtr, b. 1811, m. 1832 Hans Ellefson Rognstad (uekte barn of
Ellef Hanson, a soldier from Modum and Anne Pedersdtr who was living at
Froysak).
a. Johannes Hanson Rongstad (changed the spelling in America, b. 1833, m.
Karen Olsdtr Skartlien. To USA 1858. Settled in Highwater Twp, Cottonwood Co.
MN.
b. ANDREAS HANSON ROGNSTAD (mine). b. 1835, m. Ingeborg Trondsdtr Fossum
(b. in Sør Aurdal). To USA 1866/67 with two kids. Helene and THORVALD, my gf.
Two more girls born in US. Olina & Ida. Also to Cottonwood Co.
c. Inger Martea, b. 1837. Family history says she was known as Martha and
had a daughter named Laura, but I have no more information about her.
d. Christian, 1841-1844
e. Karen, 1844-1854
f. Hans Hanson Rongstad, m. Julie ? and lived in Cottonwood Co.
g. maybe Amund, the bygdebok includes him, but I have no family history of
this brother and there is no record of a bap for him in Land.
2. Christian Johanneson Rognstad, b. 1814, had an uekte barn with Kari
Erlandsdtr, a girl named, Eline Marie. This line appears to have stayed in Land. I
do not know what happened to Christian.
3. Johan or Johannes b. 1816, married Nikoline Johannesdtr (the bygdebok
calls her Ullsak) Evidently only 1 of their children survived, a girl named
Ingeborg, Nikoline as a widow moved to North Norway with her daughter, and I found
them in Sortland.
4. Oline Johannesdtr, b. 1821, m. Ole Kristianson Froysli. Also to Sortland.
5. Ingeborg Johannesdtr, b. b. 1821, m. Lars Hanson--to Sortland
6. GUNHILD NIKOLINE JOHANNESDTR, b. 1823, m. NILS HELGESON SAGEN, b. 1819.
Also my line. Gunhild Nikoline, known as Nikoline or Lena lived to be over 100
years old. She had 10 kids, including two sets of twins. A couple of the
sons used the name Sagen in America (those two lived in Wisconsin). The rest
just used Helgeson. Nils and Gunhild lived in South Dakota, near Yankton.
Stor-aett
7. Johanne Johanesdtr, b. 1826. m. Hans Amundson Hagen u Froysland.
8. Otter, b. 1830, a twin that died
9. Karen Johannesdtr, twin that survived. Married Kristian Kjellson Vingjar.
And one of their sons em. to N. Dak as John Chelson.
Mary Rognstad Farrell
