This diary is so interesting! About the prairie fires; I am surprised to see
them in March, early March at that. Where I have lived in the US, March
is far too wet for fires in the fields or forest. Admittedly, my time does
not
go back as far as when the proper prairie grass grew. Were the original
grasses, now all but 99.99% gone, more susceptible to fires, I wonder?
Also, Elisabeth does not help her hosts with the housework. Did her
position as pastor's wife prevent her from helping? I would think that
she would tire of sitting around. After all, she cannot be writing letters
for more than a small part of the day. This is not to criticize her, but
to understand her seeming class difference. The way things are going,
I would expect her to have servants when they finally move to the new
parsonage.
