Nancy,
The Sylvester Rue that you found (died 25 May 1980) is listed on the MN death
index. Perhaps someone going to the MN Historical Society could look at this
death certificate for you. A 1980 certificate should have the occupation
listed. Also, you might try contacting Luther Seminary in St. Paul. Their
archives department might have information on Sylvester.
