Lately there has been a few requests to help find:
"my grandfathers brother Ole J Fagernes (name made up), who went to
City, Minnesota, in 1871, etc, etc"
After my and other peoples help, with or without successes, the person
then sends in a request to find:
"my great grandfathers brothers son Iver O Fagernes, who went to City,
Minnesota, in 1882, etc, etc."
I didn't find anything during the Ole search, but I remembered seeing
Iver many times during the search, so I have to go back and look again. So
here are my hints:
1. If you're looking for family members specifically if they have the same
name or related...put that in ONE request. "Looking for Ole and Iver
Fagerness...info..."
2. Put all information you have on the person(s). Finding Ole Olsen is
impossible; but Ole Olsen Fagerness, born 7-7-1858, immigrated 1871, to
Goodhue, Minnesota, REALLY helps.
3. Researchers: If you find them, put it ON the list, not just to the
person. I have found people AFTER they have been found because it wasn't
posted.
4. When the search is over, post an email including everyone that helped to
say thanks...or send one to the person. I have spent hours in the past
finding family, posting it, not receiving any confirmation that the searcher
knew the person was found, sent them an email only to get "yeah, I got the
information, thanks".
5. Newbies: when looking for information on a topic, remember to search the
archives first. Many, many times your inquiry concerns a matter that there
is a jillion postings on the subject, ie Lute Fisk. And remember if you
want to know where a place is located, you have the internet at your
disposal use a good search engine.
5. If I found your family, please send $99.95...I'll send you my address...
