1900 census - Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon (1771 Irving Avenue).
Jen or Jens Jackson, 36 years old, born Jan? or June? 1864 in Norway,
immigrated 1889, works as a fisherman. Married to Anna, 31 yrs old,
born Norway. Two children - daughter 'Gertie' 7 yrs old and a 4 yr old
son (name illegible). There was a 3rd child who is no longer living.

His name was transcribed as "Jena". The son's name was "Melvin", born July
1895. Anna was born Sep 1868, Gertie was born Jan 1893.
"James Jackson" in Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon (1771 Irving
Avenue) in the 1910 US census, 45 years old, born Norway, immigrated
1890, naturalized US citizen, works with the street car system
(trolleys) possibly as a foreman. This man is married to Anna and has
two daughters, Gertrude (17 yrs old) and Mildred (4 yrs old). They
have had 5 chldren but only 2 are still alive.

Adding to this, they were both in their first marriage, married 19 years.
Anna also immigrated in 1890. So, there is a "possibility" that they
emigrated together, or met on the boat.
The same man appears in the 1920 US census of Astoria, Clatsop County,
Oregon (174 Franklin Street), as James A. Jackson, 56 years old, born
Norway, immigrated 1890, working as a millwright in a sawmill. His
wife is listed as Gertrude A. (but appears to be the same as previous
Anna by age, birthplace, etc) with 3 children living at home -
including the same daughter Mildred (14 yrs old), a son James D. (9
yrs old) and a daughter whose name starts with Ber.... (6 yrs old).

The 1930 Census for Astoria, Clatsop Co, OR
James A, age 66, immigrated in 1889, Electrician for the city power and
light company.
Anna G, age 61, immigrated in 1889.
Douglas J, age 19, Fisherman
Beryl M, age 16
Mildred J. Foote, daughter, age 24, married at 19, nurse in private homes
Patricia A, granddaughter, age 5(?).

born June 10th 1893 in Salem, Oregon, living in Portland, Oregon. He was
married, tall, slender, gray eyes, light colored hair.

Multnomah Co, Oregon, age 93, spouse Adalor*

The Oregon Death Index has a James L. Foote, death on 9 March 1958, spouse
name Mildred.
--The 1930 Census for Astoria, Clatsop Co
James L. Foote, age 30, married at age 20, worked at a gas station.
Angus R. Foote, age 64, born in Nova Scotia
Elise, age 57, born in Pennsylvania
Donald J, grandson, age 9, born in Oregon.
--Mildred was living with her parents when this census was enumerated...or
at least there at the time. James L was with his parents. Each household
had a grandchild present.
--The Social Security Death Index has a James Foote, born 21 March 1903,
died Oct 1974, The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon.
--Oregon Historical Records show James Leslie Foote filed a Delayed Birth
record showing he was born on March 28, 1900.
--The Oregon Historical Records show a Mildred J. Foote marriage to John
Fallow Hiestand on August 2, 1959 in Clatsop County. Oregon Death Index
shows Mildred A. Hiestand born 28 Sep 1905, died 29 Dec 1984 in Clatsop
County, spouse name John. So, did they divorce and Mildred remarried, or is
this another Mildred Foote? Appears so.
----Donald J. Foote, born 1920 in Oregon, enlisted in the National Guard at
Astoria, Oregon in 1940. "Probably" served in WWII.
--There is a Donald J. Foote, born 1926, currently living at 6631 114th Ave
SE, Bellevue, WA 98006, phone 425-204-8883.
There is a Donald J. Foote, born Nov 1929, living at 1976 Pine Ridge Dr,
Seaside, OR 97138. Phone 503-717-9286. Seaside is in Clatsop County.
I doubt either of them is the right Donald J Foote, but will leave the
information.

Beryl M. Jackson married John S Petros on November 28, 1935 in Clatsop
County.

The Social Security death Index shows Beryl M. Petros, born 26 Nov 1913,
died on 18 January 2001, last residence in Portland, Oregon.

Her Obituary:
Beryl M. Petros
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in
St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Beryl M. Petros, who died Jan. 18 at age
87.
Mrs. Petros was born Nov. 26, 1913, in Astoria, where she was raised.
She moved to Portland in the late 1930s and was a cook for St. Ignatius
School's cafeteria for 10 years. She later was a cook for the Meier & Frank
tearoom for 10 years. She was a summer cook for a Girl Scouts camp for one
year and later a cook for the St. Ignatius parish priests for seven years.
She was a longtime member of the church. In 1935, she married John Petros;
he died in 1956.
Survivors include her daughter, Jo Anne Piper; sons, Robert "Pete" and
John R. "Rick"; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family
suggests remembrances to the St. Ignatius School Foundation. Arrangements
are by Mt. Scott Funeral Home.
