Rose b.abt poss. 1857 d. in 1932;
Hyman b, abt. poss. 1858 died in 1946 or 1947.

I think my Shapiro line came from what was Russian Poland or Polish
Russia.More than likely they came through Castle Garden or Castle
Station.
They came to the NY around late 1880's.

Rose Shapiro nee Talbot was Married to Hyman Shapiro.They had a
daughter
Esther before emigrating to the U.S. Esther was at about five years
older
then Sarah b, Dec 1890

My grandmother was born on Attorney Street on the Lower East Side of
Manhattan. I doubt if she was born in a hospital. In those days, with
the
aid of a mid-wife, women used to give birth at home 9 December of 1890

My mother says she cannot prove it but is sure they moved to the Brownsville
section
of Brooklyn sometime after 1909

Rose SHAPIRO nee: TALBOT died Feb 16, 1932 when my mom (Joan Becker)
Was 5
days old She was still in the hospital with her mother Sarah (SHAPIRO)
BECKER They kept maternity patients longer in those days.(Brooklyn)

My g- grandfather had a store on Saratoga Avenue near Bergen Street in
Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

MY mother was very young when the store was no longer his. By the way
he
remarried (at age 75 or older after my Grandma died, twice) My mother
would
not even give them the respectful title of "stepmother". They were
called
her father's wives. I could not even tell you their names, perhaps no
one
else even knows. He outlived those wives too!

He was so proud to be an American. In his later years, (From my mother)
"dragging me along used to take the subway (and transfer to a couple of
trains) on Election Day
in order for her father to vote.

Any advice on finding Voting records would be appreciated

Joseph was married to Sadie one son Bruce, died young was run over by a
truck.

Rose , Hyman , Sarah are buried in Mt. Hebron Cem.
also in the childrens

Stanley Becker
Two unkn infants Becker

Joseph SHAPIRO and wife Sadie May be buried in FL
Joseph b, Jan 20, 1896 in NY d. 198 in FL
