John B. Violand died at his home in Louisville, Ohio, on the 3rd day of
December, 1894, aged 77 years, 1 month, and 21 days. His funeral took place
from St. Louis Church on the 5th inst. , amid a large concourse of relatives
and acquaintances. He was born on the 12th day of October, 1817, in a village
9 miles north of the city of Belfort, in Alsce, France. In 1828, he, with his
family came to the United States and settled in Nimishillen township, Stark
County, Ohio, where he resided till his death. In 1841 he was married to
Ludivine Menegay, who survives him. That union was blessed with four
children, all living, and residing in this township, to-wit; Mrs. Eugene
Everard, Mrs. Dennis Reno, and John and Louis Violand. He was the grandfather
of twenty children and great grandfather of seven. He was the third child of
a family of twelve, only three of whom survive him, to-wit; Mrs. John
Lamielle of Harrisburg, this township, Mrs. Charles Gabet, of New Haven Ind.
, and Esq. Violand of this place. John B. Violand was greatly respected by
all who knew him. He was a good neighbor, as the whole community where he so
long resided attest; honest in all his dealings, faithful to his word and
convictions, and kind to his family. May he rest in peace. A Neighbor.
