The Columbus Female Benevolent Society completed its fortieth year on
5th ult., having been organized on the 5th of January, 1835, in the old
Town Street Methodist Church. The first officers were; Mrs. James HOGE,
President; Mrs. E. W. SCHON/SEHON?, Vice President; Mrs. Noah H.
SWAYNE, Treasurer, and Miss M. KELLY (now Mrs. Judge BATES) Secretary;
Managers, Mrs. Wm. AWL, Mrs. Demas ADAMS, Mrs. Ralph OSBORN, Mrs.
Moses JEWETT, Mrs. Samuel CROSBY, Mrs. John BA_HACHE, Mrs. Benj. BLAKE,
Mrs. Joseph RIDGWAY, Mrs. D. WOODBURY, and Mrs. A. VANHORN. Many of
these have been called to higher service.
