H. Hunter George, Kenly NC:
You posted what you believe to be your line of descent from Richard Pace of
Jamestown. Unfortunately, I don't think this can be correct.
The key fact you presented was that your gg grandfather, Willis Pace, died in
the 1850's in Wake County, NC. So you need to concentrate of Paces who
stayed in Wake Co, NC that long. The William Pace you showed two generations
earlier (b. 1750-51 Bute/Franklin Co, NC, d. 1830-1837 Rutherford Co, TN) was
the William Pace, Sr. who m. Ruth Lambert and took all of his family to GA
and then TN before 1800. So he can't be your ancestor. The William B. Pace
who you show as the father of Willis was married to Mary Thomas and took his
family to OH in 1814.

In the 1790 census of Wake Co, NC there were 3 Pace families: John, James
and Buckner. Buckner Pace, b. abt 1760 was a son of Francis Pace b. 1718 d.
abt 1792, probably in Dinwiddie Co, VA who m. Ann. A daughter of Buckner was
Tabitha Pace b. abt 1780 who married a Gill. They had a daughter, Polly Gill
who married a Willis Pace (b. 1790-1798) in Wake Co, NC. Is this your Willis
Pace? If so, perhaps he was a close cousin of Polly. The James Pace on the
1790 Wake Co census was apparently b. in 1727 and d. bef. 1767 in NC and was
a son of George Pace, b. abt 1685, and Obedience. Details of this lineage is
in Bruce Howard's book, beginning on page 262. This James had a son, James
II, b. 1743 who lived in Wake Co. He had a son James Pace III b. 1762 who m.
1st Sarah Knight and m. 2nd Levine Fowler. James III d. 1815 in Wake Co, NC.
James III had 8 known children, no Willis. It seems that almost nothing is
known about James II, so perhaps he had other sons besides James III.
I noticed that on the 1850 census of Wake Co Willis, age 60, is married to a
Susan, age 54, and there is a Mary Vedice in the household, age 77. Living
not far away is David Pace, age 68, who was a son of James Pace and Sarah
Knight. This makes me wonder if Willis could have been a younger brother of
David.
As to John Pace, the other Pace in Wake County on the 1790 census, I don't
think anything is known about his family or what happened to them.
Finally, I would suggest checking all the Wake Co censuses from 1800 to 1840
to see what Pace families could be potential ancestors.
Gordon W. Pace
