Subject: [PACE] Pees/Pace Ancestry

An important message was posted by Scott Aaron on March 16. It referred to the relatively new website:www.freewebs.com/happyfinder0901/apps/photos
This is a very large database (with many photos) of the descendants of Johannes Pees of Baumholder, Prussia (ca 1660), who is the progenitor of thousands of Paces in America. Scott said that, since this is a new web site, it does not have a lot of info. To the contrary, I was amazed at the detail of the descendants of Johannes Pees. I thought that I had the largest database of Johannes' descendants, but I was able to add over 200 people to my database from this file.
The most interesting aspect of this history is as follows: Johannes had three sons who came to America after 1700, Hans Michael b. 1691, Hans Jorg b. 1687 and Hans Nickel. Hans Michael Pees changed his name to Pace soon after arriving in America (New Jersy) because Pace was the approximate pronunciation of Pees in Germany. Michael had several sons and the descendants were very prolific in producing offspring and were instrumental in founding the Mormon Church in Utah.
On the other hand, the other two sons of Johannes did not change their name to Pace. I was aware of this about Hans Jorg Pees but only learned it about Hans Nickel from the above referenced web site.
In summary, this website was a great revelation to me about the Pees/Pace ancestry, thanks Scott.
