This got started over a year ago when Kim Zapalac and Darlene used census records to trace descendents of Dempsey P. Pace, the youngest son of William Pace (d. 1826) to their present location in central Alabama. A quick check of the Montgomery area phone book turned up several candidates and I think that we hit the right person on the first or second phone call. However, we were not able to follow through since all three of us live some distance away from Central Alabama.
In the meantime, my sister in Alabama, Miriam Nixon, retired (almost) and found time amid her current consulting jobs to do some of the legwork for us. She contacted the donor in person, met the family, and did all that was necessary to get the sample sent in. Interestingly, the donor had seen Bruce Howard's book and thought that he descended from Richard Pace of Jamestown via John the Tory. Now Miriam gets to go back and tell him that the data shows that he is who we told him he was, rather than who he thought he was.
The moral here is that the DNA sample that you are after can be found with some work and luck. As to finding a sample from the Dempsey line, there are lots of leads in the J.V. Pace books, "Pace, Your Family and Mine." Numerous male Pace descendents of Dempsey with their locations 50 or so years ago are listed. If we check enough phone books and dial enough numbers, there is a reasonable chance of finding a donor from the Dempsey line.
