Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share this article even though it doesn't directly concern
genealogy. While home I enjoyed just walking around the courhouse, head
bent, looking at all the bricks. This would be a great way to honor a
loved one, a veteran, a pet (!)(I didn't see anything in this article that
says you can't), an early pioneer ancestor, or just anyone close to you.
When I have time to study them all, I'm sure there is some valuable
genealogical information on those sidewalks!!

"Second Phase of Brick Project Set. BIG SANDY NEWS. Wednesday, December
16, 1998.

Now that the first round of bricks are in the ground a sidewalk at the
Lawrence County Courthouse, the Louisa Beautification Committee is setting
their sights on a second phase.

The second part of the signature brick project will work the same as the
first part, and once enough bricks are purchased, they will be placed
around another section of sidewalk.

Members said they have already received around 30 orders for bricks, but
would like to get at least 200 before beginning work on the project.

Each brick can contain up to three lines with up to 14 letters per line,
including spaces. The cost is $50 per brick.

The decorative brick project is part of a larger project taken on by the
committee to improve the looks of the downtown area. So far, the group has
raised funds to put in new sidewalks around the courthouse as well as plant
trees and place new street lights with underground utilities. The group
still plans to improve the business side of the street at a later date.

Orders for bricks are currently being accepted, and can be placed by
contacting Frances Cain at P. O. Box 208, Louisa, KY 41230, or Gallie
Isaac, Jr. at 606-638-4108. To order a personalized brick by mail, fill
out the form above and mail it to the above address."
