Subject: [PACK-L] William Shorey Pack, et al #1
Date: Sat, 24 Jul 1999 15:48:30 EDT
The following (to be split up into several e-mails) is from proof pages of a
book that I found in packing material. The book's name is unknown. However,
it appears from the items found therein that it may be a history of Fannin CO
Georgia.
The first page I have is 462 and apparently this artile began on an earlier
page. There is a picture on this page of Lydia Ann Burger Pack, bn Jan 9,
1868, daug of 1839 Joseph Burger and 1834 Nancy Walker Burger. Lydia and
Jerry Pack were parents of Orah Lee Pack Newman of Ducktown, TN.
Tradition holds that two Pack brothers boarded a ship in the early
1700s and set sail from England to America. One went north to NY and the
other, Thomas Pack, bn 1730, went to Virginia. Thomas appears to be the one
from who our lineage descends.
A son, William Shorey Pack, bn abt 1760, married a Cherokee Indian
named Elizabeth Lowery, who was John Lowery's daughter. John was the Indian
chief of his tribe, recorded in Emmet Starr's book, Old Cherokee Families.
William Shorey Pack and wife, Elizabeth, had a son, Jeremiah Pack, bn
1794(?) This brings us to the 1850 Cherokee County, NC census where Jeremiah
is married to Mary (Polly) Bridges, and they are parents of three children:
Lafayette Pack, bn 1843; Narcissa Pack, bn 1834; and Stokely Pack, bn 1829,
who is the great grandfather of Grayson Newman, genealogist.
To possibly enlighten those trying to connect our oldest doucmented
Jeremiah Pack, bn 1794, to the foregoing 1730 Thomas Pack, it is known that
1794 Jeremiah Pack had a brother, Thomas Pack, born 1805, who was married
first to Artilissie Millie Hawkins, daughter of J. Hawkins, bn 1775, and
wife, Susannah, born 1775. Artilissie had a sister, Mary Hawkins, who
married Adam Burger, born 1805. Thomas Pack (1805) married, second, Eliza
McAllister, born 1825(?). Thomas Pack had ten children, apparently 5 by each
wife. (1) Mary M. Pack, bn 1833, md Solomon Stansbury, Jr. who was hanged in
Fannin County, Georgia during the Civil War. (2) Adaline Pack married James
Stansbury. (3) Joshua Pack born 1835, Md Sarah Stansbury. (4) Martha Pack
born in 1839 (5) James Pack bn 1838. (6) Artillissa Pack, br in 1850. (7)
Daisy Pack bn in 1853. (8) July Ann Pack, bn in 1855. (9) Joseph Pack bn
1858. (10) Andrew Pack bn 1858.
Please note that this is not my research. I've no idea how accurate this
information is.
