The Bartholomew Co IN Benjamin who married Ann Carter is somewhat of a
mystery. Did he come from NJ? Or did he come from VA, leaving home at an
early age to get away from a wicked stepmother as has been suggested? No
proof yet.
I believe Ann Carter's parents were from NJ. Piatt Family Newsletter would
tell. I think her mother was a Leonard and if anyone is interested in this
line I could post informatin from the Newsletter.
In this county the spellings of Piatt and Pyatt were used consistantly to tell
the lines apart.
I have visited the graves of some of this family in Columbus IN but it was the
first cemetery I had ever seen which was located between a four-lane highway
and the on-ramp! A side-road completes the triangle enclosure for this
cemetery. The library in Columbus, IN had the cemetery listings and a good
genealogical collection, too. Bartholomew Co has/had a genealogist in
residence with an office in the courthouse. It is a progressive town.
