Laverne: Ann Carter's parents were from NJ. I have Nathan Carter's will
from IN. LDS has a lot on the Carters because John Carter married Sarah
Packer. One of the present day apostles of the Mormon Church is Boyd Packer.
He is descended from the same Phillip Packer who is Sarah's father. I have
more on this line than my Piatt line. Nathan Carter had three wives and 21
children. Ann's mother was Elizabeth Leonard, dau of Wm Leonard & Elizabeth.
They were married in Gloucester Co., NJ. 16 Jun 1809. The WVA Heritage
Encyclopedia states that Mary E. Piatt was born in VA. Have not been able to
find any birth records but still searching. A Ms. Millet from AZ submitted
the Piatt family genealogy along with the Packer genealogy in the early
forties. As I understand it, she gave money to the church to help open
Family History Centers but I can't say that is fact. People that I worked
with volunteered the information when I found all the Packer genealogy tied
in with my Piatts. I was curious as to how she knew my family. A Ms.
Weinatz from Edinburg, IN did the Carter genealogy which included the Piatts
from a lawsuit in Philadelphia that took 80 years to settle. They had to
list all the heirs. This was about land that someone in England claimed
after this person was sent back to England. The Gov. of NY entered into the
fray determined that England would not get the man's fortune . I have one of
the three original copies of the genealogy. Know some of this doesn't make
sense but they keep cutting me off. Dee
