Morris Co, NJ Blackfords but connected to the ones in Piscataway. This was
a very easy line to do. The Morris Co NJ site has the cemetery records
online and I was able to gather a lot of info there and a lot of info is on
the pay site, genealogylibrary.com. I didn't fill in my database with all
of the Blackford info, skipped siblings, just took my husband's line back
as far as possible and quit because no one in his family seemed very
interested. I don't think anyone has ever gone further back then NJ time
period but it does appear that instead of coming from England, they came
from Scotland. My husband and I visited Scotland and found a town named
Blackford and also found bottled water by Blackford. (We brought back a
couple of bottles.) I can give you what I have collected. There is a very
nice fellow, George Blackford, who has a huge database which he has shared
with me, so if you're missing something I can check the disks he sent.
Benjamin Piatt/Pyatt married Rachael McWms (my direct line) and I'm
researching all of the females who married into my McWms family. Daniel
Pyatt is a direct descendant of Ben but has not been able to do research
lately. Looks as though after he takes a vacation he'll be able to go to
the courthouse in Bartholomew Co and get some documents for us.
I have found a lot of lines in Somerset Co NJ that made their way down to VA
and what is now WV. What I don't know is where or if they were in some
other state before NJ. Do you? Or which port would be the most likely for
them to have entered the country? Seems with so many in Somerset Co that a
common denominator would also be the port of entry.
Have to visit your website!
