Mattie PIATT was born in Healdsburg in May 1898. Her mother, Martha, died
one month later and was taken in by Bertha Piatt McLean (Mrs. Walter McLean)
of Santa Rosa (possibly Cazadero). What happened to Mattie?

Death of Mrs. Piatt
Mrs. Martha Piatt, the young wife of J.P.Piatt, died on Thursday last at the
age of twenty-six years. She was married to Mr. Piatt, who is seventy-two
years of age, about eleven months ago. Mrs. Piatt left a baby four weeks
old, which has been taken by Mrs. Walter McLean of Santa Rosa, Mr. Piatt's
daughter. (Healdsburg Tribune 30 June 1898)
