My info will either muddy the waters on Wm Piatt/Pyatt or clarify the fact
that there are two Williams living in the same places at the same time. The
1810 census of Hampshire Co VA lists the following:Wm Smith with 4 sons & 2
daughters plus wife. Then Mary Smith alone age 10-15. Then Wm Peatt with
son 0-9 & two females 0-9. Then Elias Smith alone 16-25. Later we find a Wm
in Augusta Co. VA. This is my Wm Piatt with three children Mary Elizabeth b.
1805 VA m. 1826 John C. Ward, Died NicholaS Co. 1885. Wm died in Nicholas
Co. abt 1850. Wm had son Benjamin F. b Nov. 1809 and another son James b.
abt 1810. This Wm had 2nd wife Mary Smith, m 17 Nov 1814. Many have
searched for the first wife of Wm. Daughter states in W VA Encyl.. Vol 22,
her parents came from NJ. As soon as I can, I plan to research all the
Nicholas Co records at the Mormon FHC. If anyone else has more proof of any
of this, we would welcome hearing it. Eleanor White included much info about
this family in the Piatt Newsletters which are mentioned frequently on this
board. Dee
