Hi Anita, Dee, listers--Doesnt this Pyatt stuff just make you crazy??? Dee I
would LOVE to have your info on your William--as detailed as possible. I have
Census info from the Piatt Newsletter for Hampshire Co, VA 1810, etc and this
leads me to believe I have skipped a generation of Williams for my John.
Here is what I have on the Wm Pyatt/Mary Smith stuff...

Wm. and Mary married 17 November 1814 in Augusta Co, VA. Mary was born about
1792 and her father's name was Martin. Thier Children were John (b. 1840ish),
William H (b 1827ish), Andrew (b. 1829ish) and Dianah (b. 1832ish). Of course I
cant document anything but the marriage. I was in the past the worst
documentarian in the world. There is also the HUGE possibility that John is
actually a grandson of William H. Mary is supposedly widowed by the 1850 Census
of Nicholas Co, VA, so previous information that Wm married a Lucinda may be
incorrect--his SON William H may have had a wife named Lucinda. This seems more
likely.

The Dawes/Guion Miller Rolls 1898-1914 lists 9 Pyatt/Pyeatt's. This is supposed
to be the 'official' list of Cherokees for allotting land and terminating the
Cherokee Nation. It is belieed that most of these were from western NC and
eastern TN, but there was a significant Cherokee population in SE Ohio and
Western WV as well. Additionally, there were folks of mixed Mediteranean Sea
Heritage (known as Melungeons) in the same area who were dark skinned and many
had negro features. Often these folks were pegged as native americans at that
time. Also, I dont have notes on any other spellings of Pyatt in this
particular list. I found it VERY EARLY when I was reasearching. Oh for the
days when I thought it had to be spelled 'right'!!!

As far as Moses..in my considerable amounts of notes on Pyatts in WV, OH and VA,
I dont have a single Moses. Williams and Johns I have aplenty....and many
Elizabeth's as well but not yours as referenced by her spouse or her father.

I also havent anything on our Smiths--I didnt start researching them in any
detail yet because Im just not quite comfortable with the information I have.

I have no doubt that all of us are connected--whether lightly or heavily--to the
original NJ Piatts. And I believe that information on much of that connection
can be found in Hamilton County, OH (Cincinnati). I do find this NC 'branch'
interesting tho. Also the second group of Piatts in the Wood-Jackson-Mason
County area of WV which dont appear to connect directly with mine. Plus given
the proximity and LARGE respresentation of Piatts in Monroe County, OH (Its just
up the river from the area where my family is) I find it really strange that
there arent more direct and obvious ties.

As for my own Pyatt memories...I remember a reunion at Uncle Chester's?? farm in
Ohio in the 70's. I would have been about...oh maybe 11 or 12 years old. Sure
wish I had been bitten by this bug back then!!

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase copies of the newsletter? How
much would that cost?

Thanks,
Robin
