(Source: The State of Texas Federal population schedules; seventh
census of the United States, 1850. Transcribed by Mrs. V. K. Carpenter.
Huntsville, Ark., Century Enterprises, 1969. 5 vol.)
(On the actual 1850 Census of Williamson County, TX (roll #444,916),
the Thomas M. Hornsby family is on page 334.)
The Diana above is presumably the Diana (b ca 1838 MS) who married
William D. Pyeatt (b ca 1832 MO), and the same as Deanner Hornsby
who married William Pyatt April 8, 1853, in Burnet County, TX.
(Burnet County was formed in 1852 from Williamson County.) Diana was
apparently 14 years old at the time of her marriage. In the 1860 and
1870 censuses William and Diana and their family were located in
Ste. Genevieve County, MO, Jackson Township. In the 1880 census they
had moved to Jefferson County, MO, Plattin Township. More information
about William and Diana's family, including links to these three MO
census extracts, can be found at your web page:
In 1850 Thomas M. Hornsby's family lived very near the families of Abner
Gregg (#59), Fielding Dawson (#64), and Harmon Smilser [Smelser] (#65).
Those three families subsequently moved to the Rough Creek vicinity of
San Saba County, TX, where they are listed in the 1860 census, along
with James Benton Pyeatt and Andrew McClure Pyeatt, who were brothers
of William D. Pyeatt.
More information about Diana's father, Thomas M. Hornsby (b ca 1805 GA,
d 1862 TX), can be found at Rex McLaurin's extensive web site devoted
to the descendants of William Hornsby. Thomas M. Hornsby (#37) is
described on the following web page, where Diana must be one of the
unnamed daughters:
Also at this site, look at the web page about Thomas's brother,
Reuben Hornsby, Sr. (#34), where Thomas is mentioned twice in the text:
(The Reuben Hornsby (Jr.) on the 1850 census extract above is the son of
Reuben Hornsby, Sr.)
Diana Hornsby's first cousin, twice removed, was the great baseball
player, Rogers Hornsby (#336), who is described on the following web
page:
I have a photocopy of the entire transcript of the 1850 census for
Williamson County, Texas. If you want to study it, I could send you
a copy.
Thanks for finding the time to keep expanding the information on your
web site.
