Hello all!
I sent an email a week or two ago and never saw it show up on my inbox.
It could have possibly been deleted by my husband before I saw it - but, not
likely. So, I am going to assume that you guys didn't see it either and post
it again.
I received some information from a Hildebrand researcher in Illinois
whose Hildebrand relative married into my Piatt line very early (before
1826) in Jefferson Co, MO. He says in a letter "The HOUSE (HAUS/HAUSS)
family seems to have come from the Lancaster County area of PA, as did the
HILDEBRANDS. The migration route seems to have been down the Shenandoah
Valley of VA to N. Carolina, through the Cumberland Gap, into KY. Tenn, down
the Ohio River, and up the Mississippi to Owen's Station, (now Bridgeton).
John & Peter HILDEBRAND settled ca 1773 out near House Springs, where Peter
was killed. Maria GARLA or GARLOCK, Peter's widow m. Robert OWENS, and moved
to Owen's Station with her family until ca 1808 when they sold their land
there to my G. Grandfather, Chiristian T. and moved back to the Big River
area. Peter and his son James had served with Gen Geo Rogers Clark in the
Illinois Campaign, and their heirs received two 640 acre grants of land out
near House Springs for their service."
So, do any of these names sound familiar to those of you with Lancaster Co,
PA, knowledge? This is as strong a tie-in to any location that I have found.
John's daughter married a Hildebrand and he and several Hildebrands
testified for each other and were estate administrators, etc. John Piatt
started having children c1793 in MO - so a birth year of 1765-1770 would
probably be appropriate. Does anyone know of any 'loose-end' Piatt named
"John" or "something J" who fit this age and who disappeared from Lancaster
County area?
Thanks, Marianne
