Surname: Pyeatte
-------------------------
We had a round on the Pyeatte list a while back of all the different spellings
and pronunciations of the name. I'm sure there are those out there who
know much more about the origins and changes in the name. I just always
like to point out, don't discount someone as a possible relative due to
differences in spelling. Many of our ancestors were not literate, many
census takers (clergy, public servants, etc.) were barely literate, from
what I've seen, spelling was much less standardized a century or two ago
- phoenetics were OK-by-them. What a wonderful world of diversity we have....:)
I would search for as many variations as you can. If you're looking for
specific search options, many sites use soundex (of course you'll get a
whole lot more than you bargained for there), and most sites have options
for one or more letters not defined (check out that site's help section);
such as P*t*. Think of it as fun. Good luck. Pyeatte to Piat to Pyat, etc
