For David:

I don't know anything further of the details of the murder of a John Piatt in
New Orleans other than what I posted. Was this John a cousin of the Benjamin
who was married to Mary Philips. Yes, to some degree, but not first cousins.
But did they know each other? I don't know. There is a lot more research
that needs to be done concerning (the) Benjamin(s).
