Dear Alison - Well, if you are a Piatt, you have lots of relatives -- all
descended from Rene Piatt who was in New Jersey in the early 1600's. I am
related to practically all those old New Jersey settlers from around
Plainfield and Piscataway -- and you probably are related to them, too,. My
principal lines from my mother are Shotwells and Drakes, You may not be
aware of it but most of those families were Quakers or Baptists. To try to
identify your particular line, you would have to take me back further than
your father -- who is probably a good deal younger than I am. Your best bet
is to identify your father's father and then see if you can find out the name
of his father, etc. There is a very active Piatt web site on line, and I
would suggest you send a message to this address:
The Piatts get together for a reunion and research every year. This year
they are meeting the end of June in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Laverne Ingram
Piatt who seems to be the main cog in the wheel at that site might be able to
help you trace your family. I believe Laverne is publishing a Piatt
newsletter. I subscribed to the newsletter for many years when it was edited
by Lynn White, who died several years ago and the newsletter ceased to exist,
but I believe Laverne may have taken it up again.
I hope this information is helpful to you. There are a lot of Piatt
researchers, and although I have links to several of the Piatts they all go
back a number of generations and I have never had the time to try to bring
any of the lines up to the present with the exception of mine, of course.
Good luck to you in your searching. It can be a fun trip.
