I don't have any specific information about a LEWIS PEATT of Westchester Co NY who was in McHenry Co IL in the 1840s and married a MARGARET WHISTON or WHITSON in WI. However, there are some curious elements in the information about another LEWIS PIATT of Westchester Co NY.
>From an unidentified newspaper dated 13 Jun 1946, "Historical Facts of Adams County [OH]," by H C Pemberton:
"LEWIS PIATT was born in Westchester County, New York, April 3, 1766. He was only 13 years old when he entered service in the Revolution. I think he was the youngest of any in our county to enter the army. In the whole country there were few to join so young. [Omitted here is an abstract of his military service which is contained in his pension application.] He lived in Westchester County 4 or 5 months [sic--years?] after the Revolution. Then he removed to Sussex County New Jersey for one year. He then removed to Westmoreland Co Penn, where on February 1, 1791, he married CATHERINE McHENRY. He next went to Ohio County, now West Virginia, remaining 18 or 20 years and then came to Adams County, Ohio. His wife died March 1, 1820. LEWIS PIATT jr and JOHN H PIATT were sons. On September 13, 1844 while residing in Jefferson Township [Adams Co OH] he applied for a pension. He signed his own name, spelling it PIATT. But he sometimes spelled it PEYETT. The name is also !
sometimes spelled PYATT. His son, JOHN H PIATT, says that LEWIS PIATT died October 6, 1851."
This LEWIS PIATT is listed in the Adams Co OH census for 1820 through 1850, being aged 100 in the last census living with his grandson SAMUEL PIATT in Jefferson Township. Those who can do the math will figure that LEWIS was only 94 during the census year. Nonetheless, his age was a remarkable achievement for the day.
Should we suppose that some of the family of this LEWIS PIATT remained in Westchester Co NY, producing your younger LEWIS PIATT?
