SUZIE --
As you probably realize, the Denegal Presbytery record of Jacob Piat
(below) is important. I don't believe it has been noticed previously by
any Piatt researcher.
The record presumably refers to Jacob Piat II (Piatt, Pyatt, or Pyeatt, as
he eventually spelled his name) who was born 1703 in Piscataway, NJ, and
who became a Pennsylvania Indian Trader, first recorded at Lancaster, PA,
in 1734. His first child was Jacob Pyeatt III, born 1725, whose mother was
said to be Jean Paul; she may have been the first wife referred to in this
record. The next child, John Pyeatt, was born in 1735, after Jacob married
again to Jane Young in 1734. The second marriage took place at Christ
Church in Philadelphia, which does not really seem "clandestine." However,
Christ Church was Anglican, so maybe the Donegal Presbyterians took
exception to the marriage for that reason.
Further search in the Donegal Presbytery records for any references to
Jacob Piat (or to the Young, or Jung(?), family) would definitely be a good
idea. Good luck.
