Subject: [PIATT] Pyatt MARTIN's mother
Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 08:50:57 EDT
Greetings, All,
I continue to seek the ancestry of Pyatt MARTIN's mother, Elizabeth
(DUNHAM) MARTIN. Pyatt was named after his grandmother, Dinah PYATT/ PIATT.
Brief genealogy:
Jacob MARTIN b. 1742 NJ - d. 1830, Jefferson Co OH
s/o Jonathan MARTIN and [m. 1822 NJ] 3rd wife Dinah PYATT
d/o Jacob & Mary (HULL) PIATT/ PYATT
Jacob married in 1764, Middlesex Co NJ to:
Elizabeth DUNHAM
She has been given various parents, and has been proven NOT to be dtr of
Edmund & Dinah (FitzRANDOLPH) DUNHAM. She might be d/o Edmund and Mary
(DUNN) DUNHAM, but that hasn't been proven. There are a number of Elizabeth
DUNHAMs at that period and location in Middlesex Co NJ from whom to choose.
To complicate matters - including his (Jacob MARTIN's) own marriage, are:
1. (Jacob MARTIN's father) Jonathan MARTIN married circa 1705, to an
Elizabeth DUNHAM d/o Rev. Edmund & Mary (BONHAM) DUNHAM
2. (Jacob MARTIN's uncle) Jacob PYATT married an Elizabeth DUNHAM, and
All of these families (DUNNs, MARTINs, PYATTs, DUNHAMS, FITZ RANDOLPHS,
BONHAMs, etc.) were close there in and around Piscataway and Woodbridge,
Middlesex Co NJ, all belong to the Baptist, and then the "break-away" Seventh
Day Baptist church. Jacob MARTIN's wife, Eliz. DUNHAM, must have been
related to that group of DUNHAMs, but the reference and documentation eludes
us.
Anyone who comes upon tidbits via the PIAT/ PIATT/ PYATTs that might give
mention to the DUNHAM connection(s), I'd be MOST INTERESTED in hearing from.
Best wishes to all,
Caral MECHLING BENNETT
