Last week I was able to research at the Allen County
Public Library in Fort Wayne IN. I looked for the Donegal
Presbytery Records which the catalog indiated were
available there. However, even though all volumes were
listed on the title card, the fine print at the bottom
indicated that only one of the several volumes was
available.
ACPL has only Volume 1, Part C, 1741-1751. The book is
not indexed but the marginal notes on each page indicate
the subject being discussed. I looked at the entire book
and found no references to PIATT by any spelling, and no
reference to other name known to have been associated with
PIATT at that time and place.
I did learn, however, that Mr Bell and Mrs Stuart spent
way too much time together and didn't care who knew or saw
it. People certainly had more spare time in those days.
So whoever has the opportunity to check the Donegal
Presbytery records elsewhere should set aside a couple of
hours or so, and be prepared for the occasional rather
amusing story.
