On 11 Feb 1854 JAMES and MARY DONAHUE PYATT sold to PHILIP
H PYATT the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of S 12, T 30, R 5W, 40
acres in Jasper Co IN. [Deed Book 5, page 210]
On 28 Feb 1855 JAMES and MARY DONAHUE PYATT sold to PHILIP
PYATT part of the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of S 12, T 30, R
5W, 10 acres in Jasper Co IN. [Deed Book 10, page 385]
On 7 May 1861 JAMES and MARY DONAHUE PYATT sold to PHILIP
PYATT the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 S 10, T 30, R 5W, 40 acres
except six acres off the north end which is deeded to
TURNER GALBREATH and ten acres off the south end which was
deeded heretofore to said PHILIP H PYATT in Jasper Co IN.
[Deed Book 12, page 308]
On 15 Apr 1866 T[urner] and MARTHA GALBRAITH and PHILIP
and LUVINA PYATT sold to ISAAC CLAWSON of Pulaski Co IN,
the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 and the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of S
12, T 30, R 5W, 80 acres in Jasper Co IN. [Deed Book 15,
page 698]
These deeds make it appear that both JAMES and PHILIP
PYATT had sold out in Jasper Co IN by 1866 and I thought
they might have then moved to Clinton Co and bought land
or at least a house and lot there. But with no deeds on
record in Clinton Co soon thereafter and the fact that
neither JAMES nor PHILIP appears in the 1870 census for
Clinton Co IN, we can't say with certainty that they were
in Clinton Co until JAMES died there in September 1871
unless some other evidence turns up.
The stone for CLAUDIUS PIATT is showing deterioration.
The rose which had covered and perhaps protected it some
years ago has been removed. Subsequently, lichen has been
growing on the stone and causing damage.
In both Oak Hill Cemetery and the other cemetery across
the road the grass has been mowed, but curiously, the
weeds in the roadbed in Oak Hill have been allowed to grow
to full heighth. In a dry season such as we have had this
year, this situation can be problematic. Either a hot
muffler or a catalytic converter can set dry weeds on
fire. For anyone visiting this cemetery it is better to
drive to the east fence row and turn in there across the
turn in. The grass is mowed there.
