Dick, Yes, the last record I have of MARY DONAHUE PIATT
was the 1866 deed I just posted. She may have died and
been buried in Jasper Co. And when JAMES died in Clinton
Co IN in 1871 he may have been taken back to Jasper Co for
burial. It wasn't unheard of in those days as
transportation was getting easier. There was also a
WILLIAM DONAHUE who was important in one of the country
churches in Jasper Co. Several years ago I went out to
the church cemetery but didn't find anything--just prickly
pear cactus growing low to avoid the mower all over the
cemetery.
That PHILIP PIATT rented a house in Kirklin until 1900 or
1910 would fit with what I found, or didn't find, in the
deeds. Interesting that CLIFFA BRANDENBERG once owned the
house, too. I learned a bit about her in the library at
Frankfort. CLIFFA was, as they say, born on the wrong
side of the blanket to LYDIA ALICE PIATT and EDWARD
FULKERSON in 1880. She appears in the census in 1880:
1880 Clinton Co IN, p 31, Kirklin Twp, 283/283
PHILIP H PIATT60 VA VA VA
Lovina58 KY KY KY
Mary C, dau 19 IN VA KY
Lydia Alice, dau17 IN VA KY
Homer, son13 IN VA KY
George Medsker 5 IN IN IN, adopted
Dora Medsker 8 IN IN IN, border
CLIFFA P, gr dau 2/12 IN IN IN
The original file of the bastardy case filed by LYDIA on
24 Feb 1880 is available in the genealogy section of the
Frankfort library.
The librarian in the genealogy section at the Frankfort
library has started a file on the family of JAMES PYATT
and PHILIP PYATT. I'm going to send him the information I
have on JAMES and his descendants and should anyone else
want to contribute records the address is:
Phillip White, Librarian, Genealogy Section
Frankfort Community Public Library
208 W. Clinton St.
Frankfort, IN 46041
Maybe Mr White can also help us in locating someone with
knowledge of the records of the old section of Oak Hill
Cemetery and the Brogan Cemetery as well as the old
cemetery in Kirklin. We can always hope.
