Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2002 16:36:32 -0400 (EDT)
The following documents are being auctioned on eBay (www.ebay.com) this
week:
White Deer Bridge Co./Piatt deed & plat, 1854
Item # 2132721252
The parties involved include H.C. Piatt, Margaret Piatt, Wm. Piatt, Sr., Wm.
Piatt, Jr., and the President and Directors of the White Deer Bridge
Company. The land involved in the transaction is in Lycoming County, PA.
H.C. and Margaret Piatt were living in Cedar County, Iowa at the time of the
land transfer, however, so it is signed by both a Lycoming County and a
Cedar County official (J.W. Cattrell).

Large lot of PA historic documents, 1860s
Item # 2132712178
This lot includes approximately 200 documents, primarily from the 1860s (a few are from the late 1850s and the 1870s). They include notices to arbitrators, a bill for the cost of arbitration, a bill for 16,000 of white pine lumber, an accusation of cutting 300 white pine timber trees without permission, a claim that a man was careless with his fire and burned down his neighbors barn, promissory notes, receipts, a bill of sale, an estate account (listing the names of more than 50 individuals), a description of property levied (one dark sorrel mare, one horse wagon, four acres oats in the ground....), a settlement in which the same lawyer appears to be representing the plaintiff and the defendant, and many others. The businesses and individuals named include the Tyrone and Lock Haven Railway, Storms and Supplee, Leonard Ulmer, John Piatt, G.W. Youngman, Jacob and William Weisel, Anson G.P. Dodge, H.J. Grant and Co., R.P. Getty and Co., Healthcote, Riley and Co., Philo S. Kell!
y, Pennsylvania Mills, Silvis and
Co., First National Bank of Williamsport, MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan of Philadelphia, Maurice Lundy, Streeby and Swartz, and many others.
These documents range in condition from very good to fair. All are legible and a majority are in very good to good condition. Many are attractive enough to be framed and displayed. A small percentage have significant water damage, making them less attractive and harder to read. All in all a fascinating group of documents, which will make a great research project for someone interested in early Pennsylvania history.
