DEATH OF MRS.CURTIS

Succumbed to long illness of fourteen years

Had been seriously ill for Four Weeks--Summons Came at 10:45 0'clock
Saturday night.

Mrs. O. M. Curtis, wife of Goshen's hardware dealer, passed away Saturday
night, the summons coming ast 10:45 o'clock which relieved her from her
from ill health which covered a span of fourteen years. She had been
seriously ill for four weeks, abscess of the liver being the immediate cause
of death.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Lucretia Blanche Parry, was born in
Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire, England in 1842 and came to America in early
childhood. They settled near Rochester N.Y., for a few years, then removed
to La Grange, Ind. She was married to Williams Collett in 1862 and later
went to Fayette, Iowa, where is located the Upper Iowa University. Here she
took a great interest in literary work and became a magazine contributor, in
a serial story by her appearing in the Milwaukee Monthly. They returned to
LaGrange where she was on the staff of the LaGrange Standard, having charge
of the Woman's department for several years. Her husband died suddenly on
Christmas morning, 1875 . She came to Goshen in 1877 and for five years was
a teacher in the Goshen public schools. She was married to O.M. Curtis in
march, 1881. She always retained her interest in literary and club work,
having been a member of one of the earliest classes of the Chautauqua Circle
in Goshen and a charter member of Philomathians, in which she was able to
keep up active work until the current year. She was a life member of the
Methodist church and took a great interest in the active work of the First
M.E. church of this city as long as she was able.
Besides her husband, the surviving relatives of her immediate family are
three sisters, Mrs. Mary PIATT and Miss Mattie Parry, both of LaGrange and
Mrs. H. W. RuTon of Goshen. She leaves a large circle of other relatives,
who reside chiefly in Goshen and LaGrange.
The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the
home, 309 South Sixth street, Rev. M.J. Magor officiating. Interment will be
at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
