Hi everyone--

I'm in negotiations with a couple of places regarding our upcoming
conference next summer and I need to get a rough count of how many
people we are planning for. Here are the basics

Date: June 22-28, 2003
Place: Richmond, VA
Probable housing location: Virginia Commonwealth University
These are suites of rooms, 8 to a suite with 2 bathrooms, carpeted and
air conditioned. I will be getting a PER ROOM rate, so it would be
cheaper to plan to share a room and divide the cost. This is the same
dorm my daughter is currently in, and I can tell you it is REALLY nice
and very secure.
Research sites: VA Historical Society (free on Monday) 10-5 daily, and
Library of Virginia 9-5 daily. There are also lots of other places to
take in on your own if you like, but these will be the two places we
will schedule.
Monday-Thursday there will be group dinners at local places (moderately
priced) with the Wednesday dinner aboard the Annabelle Lee as it
traverses the James River. All of these are optional of course, so
nobody has to feel they MUST attend dinner. Lunch each day is on your
own, and I am looking into having breakfasts at the dining hall as an
option. There aren't alot of good breakfast places in the area.
Also this year there will be 4 optional in-house courses (overview of
Richmond Research, Intro to Piatts, Basic Genealogy, and Brick Walls)
that will take place for one hour each evening in addition to our group
meetings.
One more option to consider--there will be daily activity options for
non-researchers as well. This will encourage you to bring spouses! The
fellowship of the event is a wonderful thing, and the opportunity to
tour the Richmond area at these prices is rare. So we are providing a
list of day trips and ideas locally for those who aren't going to be
researching.

Its a full week. A SERIOUSLY Full week. But its starting to take shape
and looks like so much fun!

SO what I need is an email from anyone interested in attending and a
head count. THIS IS NOT A RESERVATION!!!! You won't be bound by this.
I just need a general idea of how many so I can get us the best rate.
It would be a shame to lock in at the 10 person rate if we actually have
50!

Also please let me know if you are interested in the James River dinner
aboard the boat, and any of the classes. Im also open to volunteers to
teach these 1 hour classes!

Thanks--please email me off list at

Robin
