The records of Piatt family do not show the lineage of Caroline, wife of William PIATT. She was a widow at the time of her marriage. She was the daughter of Captain Andrew HALL SMITH and Sarah SHERRY. If anyone is interested I will send scanned copies of related papers. I am a descendant of Eugene through his son, Thomas Eziekel SMITH, who was born in Brooklyn in 1852, so they did find Eugene. However, the 1860 census shows and city directories show Eugene was a sailmaker, married to Margaret SHIBLEY, had a daugher Anne, born in 1843, Thomas and two small boys. He is listed in the 1840 city directory living next door to Jane SHIBLEY, a widow. I would, of course, appreciate any information that fits that data. My family pictures include Thomas' sister Elizabeth who married Harry BULLARD. The 1880 census indicates Thomas, single at age 28, a sailmaker, with a 16 year old boy, William G. ARMSTRONG, living with him, Thomas married shortly after the census.
Andrew's daughter Susannah, is listed as Susan KELSO CHURCH at her Greenwood Cemetery grave, where her mother, who died at the age of 91, is also buried. Checking LDS records I find a Ferdinand Cortez KELSO born in 1822, the son of Caroline KELSO and Noah KEMPTON. I found the maiden name of Sarah SMITH in the 1814 records of the Dutch Reformed Church in New York when she joined. It was listed as "Sarah SHERRY, wife of Andrew SMITH." He was in the War of 1812 at the time, so his not being listed is consistent. Eugene is listed in the 1860 census as being born in 1817 in France, also consistent with Andrew being a mariner. The three daughters were born much earlier.
