Martha,
Nancy Jane Piatt was born in 1835, the first child of Warren Piatt (born
1813 in Ohio) and Elizabeth Lee (born 1816 in Ohio or Virginia). The
family was recorded in the 1840 census for Knox County, Ohio (which is
adjacent to Licking County, and not too far from Hocking County). One of
those counties may have been appeared as "Seaking Co." in your record. The
family was later recorded in the 1850 census for Union County, Ohio, and in
the 1860 census for Noble County, Indiana. Warren Piatt left a will and
died in 1863 in Noble County. Warren Piatt may have been a son of Peter
Piatt, whose family was recorded in the 1820 census for Coshocton County,
Ohio, or of John N. Piatt, whose family was recorded in the 1820 census for
Licking County, Ohio, and in the 1830 census for Rush County, Indiana.
Reproduced below is a lengthy Piatt List message that gives more
information about the family from Indiana Records, and includes a mention
of [Nancy] Jane Piatt and her husband, Clark C. Watkins. Please contact me
at if you want a bit more information about this
family group.
