Susan Piat, listed on the Kosciusko County, Indiana, 1860 census (link
below), appears to be Susan (Roudebush) Piatt, the wife or widow of William
Piatt, born 1823 PA. At this census Susan and her two children, Sirus and
Allis, were living with her mother, Susan [Susannah] Roudebush.

Susan's husband, William Piatt, a cabinet maker, was probably a son of
David Piatt and Hannah Jackson Bonsell, and thus a brother of Joseph Paxton
Piatt (b1824? PA), a carriage maker, and Josiah Jacob Piatt (b1828 PA), a
cabinet maker.

Several of this family, including Hannah, William and Josiah, are listed in
the 1850 census for LaPorte County, IN, which is extracted on the following

Rideout, Mariah age 20 born OH / wf (This family enumerated #246 on pg 270a)

The Mariah "Rideout" listed in 1850 was in all likelihood one of Susan's
sisters, Maria Roudebush. See the Ruebush family genealogy for Susan
Roudebush, who married William Piatt, and Maria Roudebush, who married
Oliver Perry Griffith. They were both daughters of George Roudebush
(b1780) and Susannah Brown (b1788):

Joseph Paxton Piatt and his wife, Eliza Carper Hardy, appeared in the 1850
and 1860 censuses for St. Joseph county, IN. They later moved to California.
