>From the Norcal list: a volunteer checked the Rasmussen book on wagon trains
heading to the west. She says, The only one I find is a Richard Piatt/sic/,
of Piatt County. He was on a wagon train known as "The Independent Compant"
from Illinois, was in St. Joseph, Missouri on April 27, 1849 and was
intending to leave for the plains in two days. This unit consisted of three
wagons and eighteen mules. Members composing the sompany were:
