Subtitle: Let's mix them up some more.
Liz just posted the Warren Packer research concerning (Old) Benjamin Piatt, Rev
War soldier, of Adams Co OH.
At this website:

I came across a listing for another Rev War Soldier, John Trotter, whose son
Lewis Trotter married Elizabeth Piatt, daughter of Old Benjamin. The marriage is
listed in the Packer research as well as elsewhere.

John Trotter was born 1757. He died about 1835. Children: Lewis born 27 Jun
1787 died 11 Apr 1879 (these dates from tombstone in Trotter Cemetery, Adams
County, Ohio) married Elizabeth Piatt 19 Feb 1827 Adams County, Ohio. Betsey
born Kentucky married 4 Oct 1821 Joseph Spurgin; Ann (Amy) born Kentucky married
28 Nov 1822 Stephen Freeland; William born after 1800 Kentucky married 19 Dec
1822 Sally Anderson; probably other children. Source Page 47, 48, Roster of
Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Indiana, 1980.

Now the problem is that John Trotter is listed in information for Shelby Co
INDIANA. Previously, it has been thought that the Benjamin Piatt who married Ann
Carter in neighboring Bartholomew Co IN and whose (some) descendants did move to
Shelby Co IN POSSIBLY had been a run away from the household of William Peatt and
second wife Mary Smith of (West) Virginia.
But with the finding of Adams Co OH Trotters in Shelby Co IN, I'm wondering if we
should rethink our views of the origins of Ann Carter's Benjamin Piatt.
The family of James and Mary Donahue Piatt is documented from their marriage in
VA, to Delaware Co OH, to Bartholomew Co IN, to Jasper Co IN, to Clinton Co IN.
My speculation has been that Ann Carter's Benjamin had caught up with his
uncle(?) James and followed along through OH into IN. But the years don't figure
quite correctly. Benjamin might have arrived in IN while James was still in OH.
Certainly more research is needed but I'm wondering if this Trotter finding is
just a red herring or a possible clue which might tie the Adams Co OH Piatts a
little more closely to the Bartholomew/Shelby Co IN Piatts than previously
thought.
