Subject: [PIATT] Packer & Piatt Problems

Before everyone starts researching the above, I have to agree with Richard
Piatt. Ten years ago I researched the Warren Packer Genealogy sending for
most of his tapes from the Family History Center. I copied much of his
genealogy and contacted Mrs. Ravenscroft in Colorado Springs. (I hope I got
her name right as it has been years.) She had researched much of the Piatt
Genealogy which she included in a book. She could not tell me about the
elusive Benjamin only to say that he was connected to the early Rev.
Families. I sent most of the Warren Packer Genealogy that I copied to Deb
Hascall hoping that she would see something I missed and also that she
wouldn't repeat the research. From there I went into the Packer Genealogy
including the Carters from Mary Ensley Weinantz obtaining a copy of her
original manuscript. I called her daughter who was living in IN about 7
years ago. Again, they did not have any more info than we have on the
elusive Benjamin. The manuscript is loaded with Piatts but no more info. I
copied Asa Packer's research also and contacted one of his descendants who
had 27 years of research in his basement in MO. I have researched Helen
Cutler's "The Family of John Packer" with additions by Warren Packer. For
those who wonder why all the Packer Research, Ann Carter 's ancestors go back
to a John Carter who married Sarah Packer. M. E. Weinantz's research covers
the great trial, called the Packer vs Nixon case that was settled after 30
years of litigation and 1100 pages. This helped to compile the Carter Branch
of the Packer Family. She included ten generations of Piatts but still did
not know the parents of Benjamin. I have the civil war papers of Wm Carter
Piatt, son of Benjamin, my great grandfather. In all 250 pages there is no
mention of Benjamin. All of William's brothers gave depositions but no
mention of the father.
This information is given to help those starting in the Benjamin research or
the Wm Piatt, 2nd wife Mary Smith, to save you time and effort. All of the
above has been covered. As I researched I sent copies of my material to Lynn
White. She included much of it in the Newsletters. Her inner feeling was
that Wm & Benjamin were connected somehow to Cornelius Piatt. I have never
made that connection.
