Re: Isaac Ivan Piatt, son of Solomon Piatt and Nancy (Boze) Piatt
Given the similar patterns of names, your great grandfather Ivan Piatt may be related to Isaac Ivan Piatt, son of Solomon Piatt and Nancy (Boze) Piatt, as shown below. Isaac Ivan Piatt, born about 1853, may have been too old to be the father of Stephen A. Piatt, Sr. (born 1921), but he could have been his grandfather or an uncle. You may be able to figure out the exact relationship by researching census records of 1900 and later for Darke Co., OH.

Soloman Piatt was born in 1824 in Trotwood, Montgomery Co, Ohio, to John and Rebecca ? Piatt and died July 24, 1864 at the US Army Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Sec F Div 1 Grave 68. On June 7, 1845, he married Nancy Boze in Dayton, Montgomery Co, Ohio.
Solomon and Nancy had 6 children:
* Mary Ellen Piatt
* Sarah Ann Piatt
* David L Piatt
* Isaac Ivan Piatt
* Samuel Elias Piatt
* Stephen Wesley Piatt
Solomon's parents, John and Rebecca, were in the Montgomery Co OH census for 1820. Little further is known of this couple. A county history mentioning some of their sons states that the couple would have had ties to Rockingham and/or Rockbridge Co VA. However, research there and in Augusta Co VA has revealed little more and nothing as yet to establish the link to New Jersey and to Rene Piatt, a link which is strongly suspected.
Solomon was 38 years old when he mustered into the Civil War on October 7, 1861, in an Ohio Regiment.
