I typed piatt into the first name search field for the 1880 census, accidentally,
at:

http://www.familysearch.org

and got several interesting hits. I was surprised to find individuals with the
given name Piatt in several locations where Piatt surnamed families were known to
have lived. Piatt Madden was in Cicero, Tipton Co IN (William Piatt had been
there). Piatt Strieby was in Lycoming Co PA. Piatt Carnahan was in Jasper Co
MO, but born in OH. And so on.

My personal favorite was Pyatt Hardy of New Brunswick, Middlesex Co NJ. His
older sister Party was probably married and gone by 1880.

Surprising, too, were Piatt Webb, Piatt Carter, Piatt Lack, and Pyatt Miller--all
females! The lyrical nature of Piatt as a female given name had escaped me but
certainly it would hold up to the current choices such as Bricklyn, Mckenzie,
Reagon, Kennady being inflicted on the modern female child, poor thing.
