Laverne
I am happy to hear that my grandmother (Trix Piatt Koch) was not alone
in what I had always thought was an unusual decision when she gave my
father her maiden surname as his given name (Piatt Koch). He also gave
me the name of Piatt as my middle name (Don Piatt Koch)(That is how it
appears on my birth certificate). The nuns at St. Agatha's felt that
Don was a nickname and insisted that I was Donald which is essentially
how I am known today. I continued my father's practice with my son
(Joseph Piatt Koch) and have hinted to him that when he has children of
his own, he might consider making it on the order of a tradition, We
will see.
Cheers
Don Piatt Koch
