Ive just run across a transcription that I think bears further study and am
looking for your input...
Berkley Co (va) court 22 September 1773
pp224-5 Indenture mentions Evan Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, John Ryley, Adam
Stephens, John Bryan, Abraham Mconnell (witnessed by Bartholomew Fryatt,
Jeremiah Smith and William Grubb) Acknowledgement also mentions Susannah
Edwards, Widow of Ionathan (probably Jonathan) Edwards.
So my question is...what do you think the likelihood is that this
Bartholomew Fryatt was really a misread of the handwriting of Bartholomew
PYATT? Could this be our missing son?
Same article mentions other court proceedings from Berkely county VA
including surnames Gidley, Pendleton, Burkett, Drew, Strope, Adams, Champion
Hough, Turner, Franceway, Spharr, Beale, Miles, Cockburn, Fitch, Dehaven,
Hart, Spencley, Nichols, Swearingen, Morgan, Lemon, Mercer, Dalrymple,
Bidinger, Shepard, SMITH, and others.
Upon further research, I find that in 1773 Berkley Co, VA was the uppermost
part of the Northern Neck of Virginia, and now part of WV. It meets Maryland
and is very close to PA. This Bartholomew had children Margaret, Ann, Maryh,
Roseanna (m. Abram McConnell), Elizabeth (m. John McCleary), Robert, Edmond,
Bartholomew Jr, William (b abt 1774), and John. He was
given land by Lord Fairfax Aug 16, 1766 in Berkeley Co, VA
Bartholomew Jr moved to Circleville, OH (Pickaway Co) and his son moved on
to Arkansas. Bartholomew Jr served in the war of 1812 from Ohio.
Am I grasping at straws? Ancestry.com shows lineages through two of the
daughters, and son Bartholomew. What if...?
