Subject: [PIATT] database update
Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 19:59:36 -0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
I had been putting off uploading the latest database for piattresearchers
net until I was caught up. I now realize that day will never come. So Ive
just uploaded it with all the newest revisions.
It is by no means complete and cannot be counted on for accuracy. Dozens of
people have contributed thier information to this project, and I am VERY
grateful. There are now over 27,000 individuals, all related to some Piatt
[sic] or another throughout the world. Im pleased to announce that there
are now limited English and French Piot [sic] families represented as well.
Ive matched and merged and tinkered and filled in blanks until my eyes are
crossed, and Im positive there are still duplicates, but I did not merge two
individuals unless thier spouse names matched, or thier birthdates and
parents names matched. Many of the names are without surname. Lots of
dates are missing.
But its a tremendous thing, this database. It has been a real help to me so
far in sorting my double Jackson County, WV John Pyatts (both married women
named Mary and are buried in the same cemetery) and if the email Im getting
is any indication lots of other folks are finding clues there as well.
And before you ask, no, in all those 27000+ folks there is still no
indication of the Parents of my William!
Information on the living has been withheld except for thier names. If you
choose to send me your gedcoms to be included please don't send anything
that you don't want to go online.
For anyone who is unfamiliar, the database is fully searchable by surname or
whole name. Additionally, the site has a search engine on the start page
that will find the name you are searching for even in the database. Please
remember to search the surname as (Piatt) or you will get nothing.
And if you are feeling really brave, the entire gedcom is available for
download directly from the site.
