I was contacted by a lady who has been trying to find out about her birth family as she was adopted (though not legally). The reason she contacted me is that I have a man listed on one of my death indexes who seems to be a match for who she believes is her birth father and his mother's maiden name is listed as PIATT.

The entry that I had:
SHURTZ, EUGENE E MALE b: 25 Nov 1916 d: 2 Jan 1967 KANSAS LOS ANGELES SS# 551165830 mother's maiden name: PIATT

Part of he information on her birth certificate... place of birth: Queen of the Valley hospital West Covina, Los Angeles Co, California July 20.1965 Maiden name of mother: Bertha Varas age: 34 birthplace: New York. Usual residence of mother: 14257 E. Garvey Baldwin Park Los Angeles Calif / name of father: Gene E. Schurtz age: 47 birthplace: Kansas / occupation: Electrical engineer / I was told that Gene and my mother were deceased when I was 6 (1971) when a car drove off a cliff and both passengers were killed. The man was supposedly identified as Gene Schurtz but the woman was burned beyond recognition. I look from 1971 to at least 1975 in the obituaries and cannot find anything on the deaths.

If anyone know of a Piatt/Shurtz relationship could you please let me know? Thanks, Marianne
