1840 Census of Nicholas county, VA shows as follows:
In the household of William Peatt
1 Male 40-50. Presumably this is William which would mean he was born no
earlier than 1790 and no later than 1800.
1 Male 10-15. This would be William H
1 Male 5-10. This would be Andrew
2 Males under 5. This would be George and Alexander
(Presumably James, Marshall, and Elijah, all 18 or older, have moved out)
1 Female 40-50. This should be Mary, William's wife
2 Females 10-15. Now this is what puzzles me. I do show a possible female
named Mary with a birthdate around 1805 named Mary (Married John C Ward Sr
and they shouldnt be living in this household as they married about 1826).
And I definitely don't show two in this age range. Ideas anyone?
1 Female 5-10. This would be Dinah.
A search of the rest of 1840 shows no Marshall Pyatt [sic] and he would have
been about 20 Elijah appears with a wife and no children. I don't show a
James except in Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co, VA with no males? and a 30-40 year
old female.
So who are these two females born between 1825 and 1830?
Who is Mary who Married John Ward and why do I show her a part of this
family?
Thanks,
Robin
