Hi Anita--
Given the WV connection Im not at all suprised at the PY spelling. Lots of
us use our Y's there *grin*
I would be most appreciative if you would share the scans of those
photographs for the Piatt website. It would also be good to note family
resemblances. Interestingly, although dna has ruled out a male direct link
between my dad and Richard O Piatt, they have several facial features in
common. And virtually all the West Virginia Py, Pye, Pay, etc Piatts have
the same build and same shocking blue eyes, slightly oversized ears, and
crooked grin.
Never ever let the spelling rule out family relationships. Ive found
brothers with the name spelled three different ways in thier own
handwriting!
If you have further on Moses and Jane I would appreciate that as well. We
keep adding Smith connections. I know of a William Piatt who married a Lucy
Smith and went west as well. And we already are aware of Mary and her
father Martin, Lucy Venice who married Aaron Tennyson Smith (also WV),
Donald who married Mildred Smith (NY), William Piatt who married Angelica
Smith in Missouri, JW Piatt who married Barbara Jean Smith (NC), Neil W
Piatt who married Bonnie (about 1988?), John Harvey Piatt and Cassia Smith
of TN, Joseph D Piatt and Eliza Smith of NC, Albert Piatt and Henrietta
Smith (not sure where they were but Albert was the son of King Piatt and
Elizabeth Laing), Catherine Piatt and Joseph Smith--Illinois or ND probably
as that is where her parents died. Fred Piatts Daughter Joann married Larry
Smith, Charles Anthony Piatt married Laura Smith (WV --our generation),
John Saville Piatt andLeanor Smith, in the Carolinas I believe, Edgar Piatt
and Lizzie Smith of Arkansas, John Piatt and Lydia Smith who married in Iowa
in 1869, and at least 5 more Piatt/Smith marriages (All this is on the
website in the master database if you see something the piques your
interest)
Can you tell Ive been working Piatt/Smith 10-12 hours a day for over a week?
*grin*
I will find William Piatt and Mary Smiths full parentage if it kills me!
Anita you can email me those photos at or
if you decide to share.
Robin

Hi List.
I just came accross a stroke of luck. Seems my uncle's grand daughter
discovered a few boxes of my grandmother's pictures stode away under the
hallways stairs. When the granddaughter moved out of her Dad's house.
In this box were old pictures taken either in the very late 1800's or early
1900's.
Anyway written in my grand mother's handwritting was her mother's
name....written as PYATT! I had thought it was spelled PIATT.
Her ,mother was Elizbeth Hannah PYATT whose parents were Moses Pyatt and
Jane Smith, the parents came from WV. Elizabth was born in Ohio and married
in Indiana. She died in Portlland OR.
Maybe with the named spelled differently, she may possibly be related to the
PYATT'S from the county of the same name?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I feel that my grt grandmother Elizabeth or Hanna as she was called, is
related to the same bunch of Piatt's that have been in the latest
conversation on this list. BUT just to prove it!
Also I am going to scan these pictures and try to enlarge them to see the
faces more clearly.
What a joy to find these pictures!!
