Dear Laverne, Robin, & Piatt List Friends,
James Henry Piatt was an older brother of my Great-Grandfather, Andrew
Jackson Piatt. Their parents were Benjamin Piatt and Sarah Donoho/Donahue, who were
married 20 Nov 1809 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Their other children
were William Piatt, born 1810; Catherine Piatt, born ca. 1812-1814 (married
Elijah Turner); John Peatt/Piatt, (married Margaret Cartmill 10 Dec 1838 in
Lawrence County, OH --- same date and location as James Henry Pratt/Piatt's wedding
to Temperance Morgan). The connection of these children to Benjamin and Sarah
is established by an Orphan Bond for Catherine Peyatt/Piatt Orphan of Benjamin
in Augusta County, Virginia, dated 22 February 1830 and the presence of Sarah
Peatt/Piatt age 60 in the household of William Peatt/Piatt age 40 in the 1850
Census of Wayne County, Virginia, with Andrew Jackson Piatt and his family
living next door.
Robin, we believe you are correct in your assessment that you received
misinformation in the gedcom file that showed John H. Piatt and Mary McKinney as the
parents of these siblings. That misinformation seems to have stemmed from
speculations made in PFN prior to the discovery of much of the above noted
research.
