Just wanted to pass along some website updates for www.piattresearchers.net
First, I want to thank everyone for the wonderful words of support. When I
started this project about two years ago I had really no idea how much work
it was going to be. I figured I'd scan a few things and put up a gedcom and
that would be that.
I was wrong.
There were two goals I had initially for the site. One was to publish the
PFN and index, in its entirety and fully searchable. The other was to
publish the Kearney Charts. I have not even started either one. Thats how
extensive this his gotten.
I also want to thank everyone who contributes. Some contribute the scans of
documents or photos, others some tidbit of wisdom, others some extra facts
that I didnt have listed, and others some technical advice or corrections.
My biggest and deepest thanks to everyone who does that, and to each of you
who have so graciously sent me family group sheets, emails, and gedcoms of
your families for the master index.
Now on to what's new.
On the documents page there are an additional 4 scans of pension
applications (thanks Sharolyn!)
On the People Page there are three new photos from Carolyn Hart--the
wonderful wedding photo for Benjamin Watson Piatt and Rebecca Jane
Hendershot, a 60th anniversary photo for Thurman and Phena Piatt and thier
children, and a photo of Thurman in his 20's. These are great photos and I
encourage you to have a look. Thanks Carolyn!!
Ive just uploaded the latest version of the files for the master gedcom.
There are currently 35,105 individuals there which is completely
overwhelming to me. Most of them are collateral to the actual Piatts, or
generations of decendents, but they should all intesect somewhere.
There are duplicates, of that Im certain. And there is erroneous
information. Im working daily to correct those problems and it would be
hugely helpful if anyone who runs across duplicate or inaccurate information
please let me know. Also if you have information that is missing, I would
more than welcome that as well.
One of the lesser known things on the site is information about using DNA
for genealogical purposes and a few notes on our own DNA study. I encourage
you to submit any male Piatt DNA, as the most interesting connections (and
non connections!) are coming of that. Perhaps we can talk Laverne into
writing an article specific to our group for the site (hint hint)
SO there's the spring update. 35 thousand individuals. Wow.
Find it all at www.piattresearchers.net . There are also links to other
Piatt websites you might find helpful.
Thanks so much to everyone who helps!
Robin
